Looking for another delivery gig app to work on? Try becoming a Roadie driver! Founded in 2014, Roadie offers same and next-day delivery services for personal and business use. Roadie helps companies increase their delivery abilities by connecting businesses with gig workers. They also have delivery services for individuals, where users can arrange for the delivery of nearly anything they’d like—including pets!

The key to Roadie’s success is its ability to connect businesses with gig workers who are willing to deliver a package because they intend to make a similar trip while earning extra income.

Are you planning on traveling from Manhattan to Long Island? Why not make a few extra dollars while you do it? Consider driving for Roadie! As a Roadie delivery driver, you can pick up and deliver a package that may only add a couple of minutes to your trip.

How Does Roadie Work?
Roadie works by notifying drivers of nearby delivery gigs. When you are a Roadie driver, you don’t need to schedule shifts or indicate your online and offline hours. When you’re ready to work, you can pick and choose nearby delivery gigs you want to take on!

With that being said, it’s not as simple as accepting a gig and going on your way. When you find a gig that you are interested in performing, you must put in an offer to perform that gig for the price indicated on the posting. Putting in an offer means that you see a gig and request to be the chosen driver for the job. Your request or “offer” will either be accepted or declined, but you can’t begin the gig until your offer of service has been accepted. You won’t be accepted for every gig for which you submit an offer.

Roadie is very helpful for drivers when it comes to choosing a gig that is worth your time. When notifying drivers of nearby gigs, Roadie is upfront about:

  • The payment that the driver will receive for performing the gig
  • The number of miles involved in completing the gig
  • By including the payment and number of miles required, drivers can easily calculate the pay per mile and decide if it’s worth their time or not.

Additionally, Roadie does not require drivers to pick up or wait for any gear or accessories to be sent out, such as a delivery bag. While some gig platforms require drivers to utilize certain accessories, you can start delivering as soon as your Roadie account is set up!

Can you make money with Roadie?
One of the first things you will likely ask before signing up as a driver for a new gig app is, “how much money you can make?” or “can you make money with Roadie, and is it good money?”.

The answer is yes, you can earn cash as a Roadie driver and it’s pretty simple to do so. While working for Roadie, fees are calculated based on mileage and size of the parcel for delivery. Drivers have the choice of browsing gigs based on their price, location/distance, and size.

The average payout for local delivery is between $8 and $20 but can pay up to $50+ if there is more mileage involved or the size of the parcel is larger than usual. If a delivery is long-distance, for example, interstate or cross country, and involves carrying an oversized item, the payout can be up to $650. Many of these larger deliveries will likely require a trailer or a van.

In addition to directly making money on Roadie, Roadie offers a fun extra perk that many might not think about. If you are taking a long trip and decide to pick up a Roadie parcel along the way, you can track your mileage and write that mileage off on your taxes… even though you were already planning on taking that trip for other, nonwork-related purposes!

How to Become a Roadie Driver
If working for Roadie sounds intriguing to you, here’s how you can get started! There are a few steps and requirements involved in becoming a Roadie driver as followed, but they are quite simple to manage and achieve.

To become a verified Roadie delivery driver, you must meet the following Roadie driver requirements:

  • Be 18 years old or older
  • Have a valid Social Security Number
  • Have a Valid US driver’s license
  • Complete a satisfactory background check
  • Have a car with auto insurance that meets state requirements

Once you have met all of the above Roadie driver requirements, your account will be under review. The application takes no longer than a few minutes to complete, and the review process is relatively quick as well. You will likely be able to complete your first delivery within the same day you signed up.

Once you’re approved to join the platform, it’s time to get matched with a gig! By the way, as a Roadie driver, you need to maintain a 4-star minimum rating in the Roadie community or your account will be deactivated!

Roadie drivers are matched based on multiple factors. Factors include previous delivery experience, number of active gigs, and distance from pick-up location. Remember, while working for Roadie, you are not automatically going to receive every gig you put an offer in on, even if it is a gig you were matched with.

What do Other Gig Workers Think?
Gig workers are loving Roadie! They believe that it is the perfect app for multi-gigging—that is, driving for multiple gig apps at once. In a YouTube video about the platform, one user said that they findRoadie to be the perfect app because they can add on some quick parcel deliveries while already driving for Amazon Flex.

However, one struggle that gig workers have found with Roadie is that you will often need a van or a trailer for better-paying gigs as the parcel can sometimes be too large for a typical car or mini-van.

Where is Roadie Available?
Roadie is available all over America. Regardless of what state you’re living in or the size of your city/town, Roadie will be available for you to work on. While Roadie is offered in all 50 states, it is unfortunately not currently offered outside of the USA.

Roadie is typically used in addition to a host of other gig apps by gig workers with diverse incomes across platforms. This is primarily because Roadie drivers have to put in offers for gigs and wait 15 minutes plus to be accepted for the gig.

If you are currently working for Roadie or are looking to get started, lucky for you, Moves now supports Roadie! You can now connect your Roadie to the Moves app and manage all your money earned through your gig apps from one simple, central location!
